I got a message from Geeksphone that the Keon and Peak will be going on sale next week. I am looking forward to testing out Firefox OS.
There is a lot of potential here. First of all, the bar is lower for developing for Firefox OS. If you can make a website you are mostly there. That means more people can find expression in the mobile market. On the other side, it has very low hardware requirements to run well, which means devices are more affordable and accessible. That is the goal, to make the mobile web have less of a financial barrier to participation.
I like new devices, with GPS, NFC and wireless charging. But none of those are really useful. A very basic device in the hands of billions in a lot more valuable than a complex and advanced device in the hands of millions.
