You can pick your friends. You can pick your nose. If you donât pick your hyperreal social contexts, they will be picked for you.
I used to obsess over Nintendo Power magazine, and video game guides. Weâre talking late 80âs, where theyâd spread out the full 2D platform maps of levels across pages. I always thought they were organizing data in interesting ways.
I had this funny thought about comparing quest boards.
Iâm always doing stuff with the Discourse API and #quest-board. Including building my own filters and sorts. And I thought how funny it would be to sort multiple feeds into one list, and then list by votes. Because the more active quest boards would rank higher, encouraging (possibly) any given quest board community to encourage others to vote for their questsâŚ
It is not great behavior! I just think it would be funny. For instance, the voting plugin we use is just that. And lots of Discourse sites use it. And I make it a point to not require an API key for my queries, meaning I could just build a meta-vote-board of all the other Discourse sitesâŚ

The thought occurs: how many people use astrology to map their lives, and how many use it to manipulate the former group.
Symbology happens.
Iâve liked Ellen DeGeneres since it was dangerous to express so in public. Granted, it was public school in Alabama, but stillâŚ
After thinking about it for 15 years, I am going to focus on designing âtabletopâ games. Printed or imaginary, boards and cards.
I love video games, and would really like to build with them. But until we get free software toolsets that let me mix together assets without having to code, my other life foci just arenât lining up with the skills that let me participate otherwise.
Tabletop games, on the other hand, are great! Communication! Collaboration! Storytelling! Problem-solving! People and friends! And my technical skills are more supportive of such endeavors, something like an alignment that is probably worth inspecting in-depth.
Anyhow, it is a kind of relief. I can let some ideas go, because they arenât in my wheelhouse. And by âgoâ I mean noted and stored away for winter.

Awake at 2am. Havenât done this in a while. Clover woke up, felt lonely. Ultimately, doesnât like the window open, but this summer heat means the window is openâŚ
I used to want to wake up more, now I want to rest while I can.
No new game engines. Existing ones, improved and freer.
Iâm afraid my sense of altruism is my stubborn refusal to live in a shitty world.
