Okay, let’s start a discussion around these elements. What really caught me was the “self-governing community” portion. I know a lot about Discourse, so let’s work it up so we see how we get from one to the other. 
I started writing up types of Discourse installs, with the intent to go through all the options and explore how each could be used by each. Would that be helpful?
