WP-Piwik

So, there is an update for WP-Piwik. If you are running a recent version of WordPress, you of course know when your plugins are updated, but I am using this opportunity to explain how I use this plugin.

WP-Piwik is one of a couple of Piwik plugins, and for my purposes I found it to be the one that was easiest to use, and did want I wanted, without any cruft. Piwik is an open-source analytics server, often compared to Google Analytics. cog motive runs an instance of Piwik for our clients, as well as our friends.

The WP-Piwik plugin is super easy to set up, you just put in the URI of the Piwik server, and your auth code, and you are off. There are some additional settings, like the ability to not track certain roles (for example, the Administrator, which obvious racks up a lot of page views). The plugin does what you expect from it, and even provides a dashboard for WordPress.

If you want to learn more about Piwik, check its site. That is where the real power is, and I am waiting for some of the plugins for that software. Because it is open-source, you can be sure that it will get some interesting ways to view metrics, or something. More about that later.
