Discover Dizzy Games

I tripped across the Dizzy games a few weeks, maybe a month back while learning about the Aladin Deck Enhancer for the NES.

It’s a platforming adventure puzzle game series with over two dozen entries. It’s been ongoing since 1987 and there is a new game in the works; and it stars no italian plummers or blue hedgehogs. It is remarkable to have any kind of platforming franchise run this long with this many installments and be this unheard of.

The creators seem to have a tight relationship with their most prominant fan site and seem to endorse it. It is also just giving roms away of the games.

I poked at Amiga emulation a little bit last night; trying to decide exactly what platform to emulate to play these games. I’ve never been an Amiga guy, so that part of this was educational.

The whole series is very cross platform, but largely on 8bit and 16bit computers of the period and some of the DOS ports are not readily found by me. A few console ports exist but eratically.

The entire series is on ZX Spectrum and that appears to be the developers preferred platform. And I’ve got other compelling reasons to learn about the ZX Spectrum. However it’s graphics are kind of garrish compared to the Amiga and Commodore options. (See below)
