As Wired and others are reporting, the NSA has a program where it is somehow accessing the servers of those major companies. People are in general shocked and outraged.
I am not. Perhaps I have been naïve, but I thought we all knew this was always happening. I can’t say much more about it than that. We don’t trust corporations, because they are not trustworthy.
This is pretty much how I felt. Still, finding evidence that the entirety of the Senate and the executive branch were colluding in a massive spying operation means that things have shifted so, so far that the ethical landscape is almost unrecognizable.
The only thing that keeps me optimistic is that historically a government like ours is super inefficient. That is horrible for people who get chosen for punishment, but it also gives us a chance to be disruptive in cycles.
