WTF is John Lewis supporting this?!
My cynical take:
While Rep John Lewis is usually better than this. This is lining up to have a huge amount of bipartisan support. As lobbyists are pushing for it bad and the Democrats seem to be choosing to ignore the moral spectrum on this one. It seems like it might be amounting to an easy gimme to lobbyists that the public can shrug off without holding the democrats feet to the fire.
My optimistic take:
John Lewis and many of his peers aren’t always the technically most saavy individuals and may be a little ignorant on the long term implications of this. Especially at a moment when their trying to find any shred of common ground from their GOP peers. Co-sponsorship on this bill, might mean he is trying to get his republican counterpart on this bill to come across the isle on another issue. Or co-sponsor a second more John Lewis aligned bill he thinks he needs bipartisan support on.
