I didn’t want to put these in #gaming, because I set the tone and I don’t want folks to not talk about their games because I express strong feelings and use words like “puke” to describe them. So instead, here is this topic, in #maiki, for me to do that.
I just read the EULA for setting up the Switch and puked a little bit in my mouth.
Ahhh, can’t wait to relax on a virtual beach leased, not owned, by me…
“Nintendo Intellectual Property” includes “know-how”.
Unfettered capitalism, folks!
I thought the new finger-prick module for blood sample submission was a great, easier way to show we accepted the EULA. So convenient!
I posted why I was buying a Switch when it was released at Obligatory noun-verb joke: Switch. What I didn’t note there (but maybe somewhere in this archive…) was I traded in the Wii U and 3DS consoles but was unable to get a Switch due to supply issues. And then in that time since I had really come down hard on companies and their use of technologies, and decided to game in “hardcore mode” (Gaming on Hardcore Mode) by deleting Steam and GOG accounts.
So here I am a couple months in with the Switch. I really like it. It’s been a great device, and the software library is okay. I mean, I’m really happy with it. I’m so far gone into the, what is it, “Zelda Reloaded/Reboot”? I’ve been BOTW, bought the DLC for it because when I read what it was it just makes sense, and even played an hour of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and holy fuck am I excited to play it, because it builds on this crazyass storyline that somehow hits all these tones well…
Listen, we’re gonna get to Zelda, eventually. You may not know this about me, but I’ve played nearly every Zelda game ever made, including ones you’ve definitely not heard of, but quietly, because it involved so many ROMs, and also I’ve done the same for Mario, Castlevania, Metroid, Contra, and a handful of other franchises from my youth and I obviously have conflicted feelings about the control popular culture has over my life, so I keep it on the DL, ya know?
Anyhow, I’ve also found some great story games, beautiful human artifacts that tell amazing stories I want my child to experience. Cool.
Oh, and Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! I’m sooooooo happy, I noticed it was on sale last night with half an hour left to go, and threw some points at it, and got it for $13.65, which is easily how much I would drop on a single visit to play this at the arcade in Japantown, SF, so we are golden!
Overall, I’m having a great time with it, and that is somehow caches thirty seconds of gameplay to be recorded at any time really fascinates me, causing me to pause at least once a day as I figure out what exactly is going on at a technological level.
