Neil and I coded a phone gateway for the English Wikipedia on Twilio. You send it a text with your search query (like “Barak Obama” or “Seattle”) and it calls you back in a few seconds and reads you the entire text of the article. =D

Judy goes on to explain how the convergence of community efforts from various individuals and groups are allowing em to create helpful and interesting tech. Also, e is getting a free trip to the Berlin hackathon, so that is hot.
The development here really is useful, too. A couple of years ago we were looking at using something similar for Oakland Local, where you would find a number and extension to call on stickers placed around the city which would be updated with recent news and history pertaining to that location. At the time there were only expensive services that provided that functionality.
I am looking forward to seeing it develop. Now, we just need to get Judy to blog a little bit more often…
