Car passed inspection. Bluetooth OBD II thing is totally worth it.
EDIT Gotta say my phone never felt more like a tricorder, when I had it scanning all the data from the various sensors and the computer embedded in my car.

Dang that does sound really cool.
I should get that!
For the record this app worked well for me. In terms of hardware, I just searched for “OBD” and “ELM327” and got the cheapest one I could find, and it worked.
I will mention the security around the cheapest ones doesn’t seem to be great. Mine is continuously and eternally in pairing mode willing to pair with any device with a pin of “1234.” So I won’t be leaving mine plugged in when im not using it. YMMV with slightly less dirt cheap models.
